Your name and headpiece workshop

By 20 September 2022

The 2-day workshop will be a taster of millinery techniques so to produce a headpiece ‘fascinator’ for spring summer racing. In the course we will make a foundation then wire the piece before covering and decorating it. The foundation could be a teardrop, crown, pill box or peached style.

I will bring along hat blocks from my collection to use.

The foundation will be covered and then decorated. French tooled flowers will be cut and made as well as feather quills shaped for sewing onto the headpiece.  Your project will then be lined and complete with comb, headband, or pin loops to that you don’t have any slip ups when walking down your own catwalk.

Skills learned will include:

  • French tooling silk flowers
  • Thermo foundation creation
  • Covering the foundation with fabric
  • Wiring a headpiece
  • Grosgrain head fit finish off
  • Manipulating feather quills
  • Securing headpiece to either comb, pin loops or headband.
  1. Bring a plate for potluck lunch.  Tea, coffee, and gluten free cake will be provided for morning/afternoon tea.
  2. We will be doing the workshop at the newly restored east end of the railway rooms
