The theme for the 2026 Murrurundi Festival is Art in the Landscape. For both residents and visitors, the most compelling aspect of Murrurundi is the landscape. Situated between Mt Helen to the north and The Five Fingers sandstone formations to the south, the natural beauty of the locale dominates. The 2026 Festival will celebrate the valley by taking the art into the landscape. The festival program will focus on the visual & performing arts. The Program includes: Art of Puppetry – Little Wing Puppets present A Little Bit of Blue Art of the Guitar – Duo Bosco (classical guitarists) Art Prize – Recognisably Murrurundi – a new landscape prize A Community of Artists – Galleries + Studio will be open throughout the Festival Its A Wrap – Inspired by Belgian artists Christo & Jeanne-Claude, local artist Peter Morris will wrap key landmarks, fences, and bridges Fairy Picnic – Sunday morning frolic at Paradise Park Disco Loco – Saturday night silent disco
Murrurundi is a tight knit community with a recorded a population of 1038 at the last census. With no industry in town, the town is reliant on surrounding agriculture, and equestrian studs, and tourism. With three galleries and a number of resident artist’s studios Murrurundi has an active arts sector. The Festival seeks to amplify these strengths and position Murrurundi as a destination. The aim is for the Festival to become a regular event and thereby create ongoing opportunity for future arts and cultural activity. If one person is inspired to pursue a career in the arts then part of our mission is achieved.
The Murrurundi Festival has already gained support for infrastructure and marketing. The Festival now requires additional funds for program content. Funds raised will go to supporting program items such as the Fairy Picnic, Art of the Kite and Its A Wrap (see website for program details www.murrurundifestival.com.au)
